Pursuing Public-Private Cooperation in Net Zero through Green Building 


Building Green 2023, the annual green building conference of the Philippine Green Building Council (PHILGBC) happened on the 28th of September 2023 at the Modala Resort, Panglao, Bohol, Philippines.

The Building Green Conference is an annual nationwide building industry education campaign on green building and sustainable practices. In this 17th edition of the conference, the PHILGBC brought together green building innovators, showcased products and technologies, and emphasized the work of businesses that have adapted and advanced sustainability. Local and international leaders from the public and private sectors convened to discuss their initiatives to promote energy efficiency, green building, net zero, and sustainable finance.

“Pursuing Public-Private Cooperation in Net Zero through Green Building" is the theme of this year's Building Green Conference.   There were four (4) Plenary Sessions: Local Actions on Green Building; National Programs on Sustainability; Regional Perspective on Public and Private Cooperation to Advance Green Building; and, the Latest Green Building Innovations, Strategies, and Solutions (IS2).

The Council Draft for BERDE version 5.0.0 have also been presented in the conference as part of the consensus building process for the further development of the BERDE program, to incorporate regulatory updates, standards, and learnings from industry and green building projects.  Updates on the Advancing Net Zero Philippines certification program, and the Health and Well-being for Buildings certification program have also been shared.

Building Green 2023 have been capped by a dinner and awarding ceremonies.  Meritorious awards have been given to individuals who have been significant in the advancement of the work and programs of the PHILGBC, as well as loyalty awards have been given to PHILGBC corporate members for their continued commitment and support towards market transformation for a better, healthier, safer, and greener built environment.  Certified BERDE projects, Advancing Net Zero (ANZ/PH) Projects, and PHILGBC Health and Well-being (H+W) certified projects were also recognized during the awarding ceremonies.  

Building Green 2023 is happened back-to-back with the Meeting of Leaders from the World Green Building Council-Asia Pacific Regional Network (WorldGBC-APN) on September 26-27, 2023, and the BERDE Professionals Basic Training Course that also happened on September 26-27, 2023.

PHILGBC Certification Programs

PHILGBC Vice Chair, Ms. Rowena Ramos presented the council draft of BERDE – Buildings – version 5.0.0. as part of the continuing development of the BERDE program.  Improvements on BERDE based on regulatory updates and learnings from projects and industry will be presented to the plenary and will be open for commenting.

Engr. John Reniel Englis, Technical Staff of the PHILGBC presented on updates for the PHILGBC Certification Programs (BERDE and BERDE - Districts, Advancing Net Zero Philippines, and Health and Well-being for Buildings).
